APA Citations and Plagiarism

APA (American Psychological Association) is the preferred citation style for the Health Information Technology program. Some basic rules for APA and academic honesty:

  1. Cite direct quotes using an in-text citation. Use the resources below to learn how to do in-text citations in APA.
  2. Cite ideas as well as words! Paraphrasing is when you summarize information you've seen elsewhere.
  3. If it's not common sense, you must find a source! Think of citations as a way to "prove" what you know.
  4. Cite all of your sources two different ways: First, use an in-text citation whenever you use a source in your paper. Second, create a references list with all of your sources alphabetized.
  5. Before you submit your paper, double-check your sources. Everything in your in-text citations should be in your bibliography, and everything in your bibliography should be cited in your text.

Journal Titles at San Juan College Library

Access to databases and journals off-campus: Search for titles through the San Juan College Library's main search page. Sign in to your library account in the top right of the search results screen - username only, no "@my.sanjuancollege.edu". Then access the journals through the link in our search. This will create a proxy link that tells the database you are a San Juan College student.

Open Educational Resources
