Overview of Tewa/Tano

The Tewa language (also known as Tano) is the primary indigenous language of the Nambe, Pojoaque, San Ildefonso, Ohkay Owingeh, Santa Clara, and Tesuque Pueblos as well as Tano village in Arizona. The Tewa language is a subgroup of the Tanoan language family. According to the Endangered Languages Project, there are roughly 1,500 speakers and is classified as "endangered."
