SJC Faculty Library Guide

A research guide helping faculty through our various library support services.

Check Out A Librarian!

You now have multiple options to request a librarian!

1. Embedded Librarian Request

Ideal for Canvas online activities: Discussion boards, online library instruction.

Embedded librarians for in-person classes can schedule special skill-building seminars or produce custom instructional videos.

Librarians are available for as long as you like - even for an entire semester!

2. Library Collection Request

Need material for your classroom? Request it! Give us 1-2 weeks for delivery.

3. Course Reserves Request

Professors sometimes place textbooks and other materials for in-library use behind the circulation desk.

4. CoursePack Request

Need to fill a gap in a textbook? Need some last-minute curriculum writing? Our librarians can write 1, 2, or all weeks of your course using library materials. We can't teach your course for you, but we can help ease the workload.

5. Library Instructional Request

Need your students to understand research and how to use the library? Librarians can come to your class, bring your class to the library, or teach students how to use the library via Zoom!

If you want to embed a librarian:

Send in the request using the form.

We then write an IT ticket asking to be let into the Canvas course.

We always ask for a buffer of a few days before our embedded period, and a few days after.

If you want students to ask a librarian questions or get research help, keep in mind that the vast majority of student responses will be on the last possible day. So if a librarian is embedded until Friday, and the students have until Friday to ask for help, the librarian may not have time to respond! The best deadline is at least two days before the end of the embedding period.
